FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS ADHD?

ADHD is an inherited neurological disorder. You cannot grow out of it. If you had it as a child, you will have it as an adult.

ISN'T ADHD JUST SOMETHING OVERACTIVE BOYS HAVE?

Overactive boys are just the most visible ADHDers. But ADHD prescriptions in women aged 26-34 spiked 85% between 2008 and 2012. Girls with ADHD are often treated for a mood disorder before receiving their ADHD diagnosis. Girls and women with ADHD also have higher rates of bulimia, obesity, risky sexual behaviors and anxiety disorders.

HOW DOES ADHD COACHING DIFFER FROM LIFE COACHING?

Both Life and ADHD coaching help you to set meaningful and attainable goals.  Both also hold their clients accountable for what they say they are going to do. ADHD Coaching provides a stronger level of support, structure and degree of accountability to bring about results. ADHD clients need more support or check-ins between sessions to support them in creating new strategies, systems and routines that work for them.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Typical coaching relationships last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. Some last longer. It all depends on how committed you are to the coaching process and how willing you are to try new ways of thinking and doing.

WHATS THE FEE STRUCTURE?

My fees vary based on your needs. My typical package includes four 60 minute sessions per month via phone or video and unlimited check-ins via text or email in between sessions.

CAN I BE IN THERAPY AND COACHING AT THE SAME TIME?

Yes!  Coaching and therapy are complementary services. Coaches will help you define goals and will partner with you to achieve those goals, while therapists support your mental health needs. Sometimes it is helpful for coaches and therapists to communicate with each other to make sure you are being properly supported.

CAN I IGNORE MY OWN ADHD AND JUST TREAT MY KIDS?

In the event of an airplane emergency, you are instructed to put on your own oxygen mask before helping your children. The same principle applies to ADHD. You can best help your children when you have taken care of yourself. One reason that ADHD medication stops working in children is because their parents with ADHD struggle to follow the prescription correctly.

I DON'T HAVE ADHD. CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?

Yes! The tools I use for ADHD can help anyone to be more self aware, organized and feel more balanced.
